Position Title: Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW)
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor

 

Position Summary

The CPSW uses their own lived experience in recovery to provide peer support, mentoring, and advocacy to clients. This role promotes hope, empowerment, and personal responsibility while assisting clients in navigating recovery and accessing community resources.
The primary work location and designated reporting site for training will be assigned by the direct supervisor. All location details, scheduling information, and reporting instructions upon hire or as operational needs change.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support through individual and group services (H0038).

  • Assist clients in setting recovery goals and building self-advocacy skills.

  • Share recovery experience to inspire hope and resilience.

  • Support clients with navigating community resources, support groups, and services.

  • Maintain required documentation (progress notes, service logs) within 48 hours.

  • Participate in treatment team meetings and coordinate services under supervision.

  • Model recovery-oriented practices and uphold CPSW Code of Ethics.

  • Adhere to HIPAA, confidentiality, and agency policies.

  • The CPSW reinforces the skills and concepts taught daily in CCSS, IOP, and CPSW groups to support clients’ learning, recovery, and independence, including integrating scheduling and time management into their daily routines.

  • Will respond to all internal communications (email, Teams, phone, or messages) within 24 business hours, unless scheduled out of the office or on approved leave.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Current Certified Peer Support Worker certification (CPSW) in New Mexico.

  • At least 3 years of personal recovery experience.

  • Knowledge of recovery principles, CHIME framework, and peer support values.

  • Strong communication, empathy, and boundary-setting skills.

 

Scope of Practice

CPSWs use lived experience of recovery to provide non-clinical peer support, mentoring, advocacy, education, and linkage to natural/community supports. They foster hope, empowerment, self-advocacy, and wellness planning, and document peer services per policy while maintaining appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.

Does not: diagnose, clinically assess, or provide psychotherapy; create or modify clinical treatment plans; bill outside approved CPSW codes; deliver CCSS or clinical services unless duly trained and explicitly scheduled in that role; breach boundaries or disclose PHI beyond the minimum necessary.
